This plan is designed with consideration of the multiple committees, conferences, initiatives and meetings in mind, for the State Secretary of the Florida State Elks Association.
Timeline Overview
Month 1: Pre-onboarding preparation and orientation meetings.
Months 2-3: Strategic assessment and planning for initiatives.
Months 4-6 (ongoing): Building relationships and networking within the organization.
Months 7-9: Implementation of key initiatives.
Months 10-12: Evaluation of progress and continuous improvement.

1. Pre-Onboarding Preparation (Before Start Date)
Goal: Gather information and resources to ensure a smooth transition.
Actions: Review organizational documents, including bylaws, strategic plans, and recent meeting minutes.
When possible and appropriate, connect with outgoing leadership to understand current initiatives, challenges, and opportunities.
Prepare an introductory message to share with the organization upon starting.
2. Orientation and Introduction (First Month)
Goal: Familiarize with the organization and its culture. Get on the ground in 40 lodge locations in year one.
Actions: Schedule meetings with key stakeholders, including board members, committee chairs, and lodge leaders, to introduce and understand their roles.
· Identify potential mentors “Elk Champions” in the organization to participate in comprehensive orientations that covers the organization’s history, mission, values, and key initiatives.
· Visit local lodges to meet members and gain insights into their operations and community impact.
3. Strategic Assessment and Planning (Months 2-3)
Goal: Evaluate current strategies and identify areas for improvement.
Actions: Review existing strategic plans and assess alignment with the organization’s mission and goals.
· Conduct SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis to identify key focus areas. Develop a preliminary action plan outlining objectives and strategies for your tenure.
4. Building Relationships and Networks (Months 1-6)
Goal: Establish strong connections within the organization and community.
Actions: Attend state meetings, regional conferences, and community events to network with members and leaders.
· Schedule one-on-one meetings with influential members and community partners to foster collaboration.
· Join committees or task forces to actively participate in ongoing projects and initiatives.
5. Implementation of Initiatives (Months 7-9)
Goal: Begin implementing key initiatives identified in the strategic assessment & approved by the Board of Directors.
Actions: Launch priority projects or programs that align with the organization’s goals, such as membership drives or community service initiatives.
· Develop and communicate clear goals and timelines for each initiative to ensure accountability.
· Gather feedback from stakeholders to assess the effectiveness of implemented initiatives.
6. Evaluation and Continuous Improvement (Months 10-12)
Goal: Measure progress and refine strategies for continued success.
Actions: Conduct evaluations of the initiatives launched, analyzing successes and areas for improvement.
· Solicit feedback from members regarding your leadership and the effectiveness of new initiatives.
· Prepare a year-end report summarizing achievements, challenges, and recommendations for the future.
